There are only a few more episodes left to savor from the final season of Outlander. But fans won’t be left in the cold for too long. On Thursday, Starz dropped a first look at the second season of the show’s spinoff, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Having premiered last year, the series tells the love stories of Jamie and Claire’s respective parents, set decades before Outlander’s first season.
The debut season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood ended on a few cliffhangers. (Spoilers ahead if you haven’t finished season one.) The season finale including seeing Jamie’s parents Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie (played by Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater) married in secret and run off together—after Ellen was originally supposed to have been wed to the rich and powerful Malcolm Grant (Jhom Lumsden). At the same time, Claire’s parents Henry and Julia Beauchamp (portrayed by Jeremy Irvine and Hermione Corfield)—who had time traveled to the early 18th century from post-World War I Britain earlier in the season—were trying to escape back through the stones at Craigh na Dun, each of them outrunning threats that had entrapped them while in the Scottish Highlands.

In the 30-second clip below, viewers can see glimpses of all of the main characters. Some are depicted in the primary timeline of the series set after 1715, including Brian and Ellen embracing in the opening, followed by Ellen standing alone, bracing herself against the beams of a stained glass window. There’s also a clip of Henry and Julia with a very young Claire in their London attic apartment, although it’s unclear if this is a flashback, as was seen so often in the first season, or the couple did make it back to the 21st century through the stones. There are also glimpses of a major battle, already foreshadowed by the presence of the real-life Scottish Jacobite outlaw and folk hero, Robert “Rob Roy” MacGregor.

Most intriguing is a glimpse of a courtly masked ball that evokes memories of Claire and Jamie's time in Paris during season two of Outlander—a connection that is proving more significant than anticipated, given some of the revelations tied to characters from that era in season eight so far.
The Outlander series finale will air on Starz on Friday, May 15. Starz hasn’t announced a specific date for when season two of Blood of My Blood will premiere, but the clip notes it will return this fall.
